Fishing is a small fraction of UK GDP - just 0.03% - but is concentrated in some of the UK's most economically deprived areas. Each fishing job supports jobs in supplies, maintenance and services, and it is estimated that an increase in catches of £1 million would see another £6 million made in associated industries.
